Charlotte Findlater Design and Build S.L. is  looking for an exceptional Senior Interior Architect / Project Lead to join our growing studio in Menorca.

This is a senior, hands-on position for someone with substantial experience delivering high-quality residential projects, particularly new-build homes and complex renovations, from the earliest stages of design through to completion on site.

We are looking for someone who is as comfortable walking onto a construction site and resolving a technical detail with a contractor as they are developing an interior scheme with the design team.

This is not a purely conceptual design role, nor is it simply a technical delivery position. It is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of projects, contribute creatively to their development and play an important part in translating design intent into beautifully resolved, buildable homes.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the interior architectural and technical delivery of a portfolio of residential projects across Menorca, managing projects at different stages simultaneously and helping ensure they progress effectively from concept through to completion.

Working closely with our interior design team, consultants, contractors, craftspeople and suppliers, you will help lead projects from survey and concept development through technical design, construction, installation, snagging and completion.

A significant part of the role takes place on site. During active construction periods, you will be expected to visit projects regularly, often daily where required, ensuring that information is understood, details are being executed correctly, quality is maintained and potential problems are identified and resolved before they compromise the finished project.

You will be expected to understand where each project stands, what information is required next and where decisions or coordination are needed to keep work progressing.

You will also contribute creatively to the studio. We are not looking for someone who simply administers construction or produces technical information. We want an experienced interior architect with strong design judgement who can contribute ideas and understands how architecture, interiors, materials, light, furniture and landscape come together to create an exceptional home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multiple residential projects through design, technical development and construction.
  • Take ownership of project priorities, information requirements and day-to-day progress across a portfolio of live projects.
  • Undertake site surveys and detailed measured surveys of existing properties.
  • Assess existing buildings and site conditions and translate survey information accurately into project drawings.
  • Develop spatial layouts and interior architectural solutions for both new-build and renovation projects.
  • Contribute actively to concept and design development alongside the wider interior design team.
  • Produce comprehensive, accurate and buildable technical drawing packages.
  • Prepare plans, elevations, sections, reflected ceiling plans, bathroom and kitchen drawings, bespoke joinery details and construction details.
  • Coordinate drawings, specifications, schedules and design information across each project.
  • Work collaboratively with the interior design team to develop materials, finishes, lighting, sanitaryware, joinery, FF&E and bespoke elements.
  • Coordinate information with architects, structural engineers, building-services consultants and other members of the wider project team.
  • Attend sites throughout construction and act as a key representative of the studio during project delivery.
  • Build strong working relationships with contractors and trades while remaining confident in challenging work that does not meet the required design or quality standard.
  • Review construction against approved design information and protect the integrity of the original design intent.
  • Monitor the quality of workmanship, materials and detailing throughout the construction process.
  • Identify design, coordination, programme and quality issues early and work proactively with the appropriate parties to resolve them.
  • Anticipate information requirements and ensure drawings and design decisions are available when required to avoid unnecessary delays on site.
  • Review contractor, consultant and specialist information where required and ensure it coordinates with the interior architecture and wider design.
  • Liaise confidently with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers and craftspeople.
  • Record site decisions accurately and ensure that changes are incorporated into the appropriate drawings, schedules and project information.
  • Undertake quality reviews, snagging and completion inspections.
  • Follow outstanding items through to satisfactory resolution rather than simply identifying them.
  • Manage competing priorities across several projects at different stages of development.
  • Maintain clear, organised and accurate project information.
  • Contribute to the continued development of the studio’s technical standards, processes and ways of working.
  • Support and collaborate with other members of the design team, sharing knowledge and helping maintain a consistently high standard of work.

What We Are Looking For

You will already have significant professional experience in high-quality residential interior architecture, with a portfolio demonstrating both strong design ability and technically resolved built projects.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate not simply what a project looked like when it was completed, but their own responsibility for making it happen.

You should have:

  • Senior-level experience in interior architecture, architecture or a closely related discipline, ideally 7+ years.
  • Strong experience delivering high-quality private residential projects.
  • Demonstrable experience across both new-build and renovation projects.
  • Extensive experience working directly on live construction sites.
  • Evidence of projects you have personally taken from concept through technical design and construction to completion.
  • Experience managing several projects or workstreams simultaneously.
  • Excellent construction knowledge and technical detailing ability.
  • The ability to produce clear, accurate and comprehensive technical drawing packages with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of materials, finishes, bespoke joinery and high-quality residential construction.
  • Confidence undertaking measured surveys and interpreting existing buildings and site conditions.
  • Excellent AutoCAD skills and strong SketchUp capability.
  • The ability to read, interrogate and coordinate architectural, structural and building-services information.
  • Strong organisational and project-management skills.
  • The ability to anticipate problems rather than simply react to them.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the confidence to make considered decisions on site.
  • The confidence and experience to challenge poor workmanship or departures from the agreed design where necessary.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build constructive professional relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, suppliers and craftspeople.
  • Excellent attention to detail and an unwillingness to accept “nearly right” where the quality of the finished project is concerned.
  • A full driving licence and the ability to travel regularly between project sites across Menorca.
  • The right to live and work in Spain.

Given the site-facing nature of the position, strong Spanish and English language skills are essential.

Knowledge of construction methods, trades, suppliers and project delivery in Spain or the Balearic Islands would be a significant advantage.

The Person

We are looking for someone who takes responsibility.

You will need to be technically rigorous, highly organised and calm when projects become demanding. You must be comfortable managing competing priorities and capable of moving between a detailed drawing, a site meeting, a material discussion, a contractor query and a design review without losing sight of the bigger picture.

You should care deeply about how things are made.

The smallest junction, shadow gap, material transition or piece of joinery matters because collectively those decisions determine the quality of the finished project.

You should also understand that delivering exceptional residential interiors requires pragmatism. Construction presents challenges. Existing buildings reveal surprises. Details sometimes need to evolve. We want someone capable of finding intelligent solutions while protecting the underlying design intent.

At the same time, you must be a genuine team player.

This is a studio and site-based position and is not available as a remote role.

The successful candidate must be comfortable spending a significant proportion of their working week visiting projects across the island, particularly during active construction phases.
